Los Angeles, CA - December 10, 2015.- LA-based live electronic band Palenke Soultribe and Latin Grammy nominee Petrona Martinez present their latest single "Las Penas Alegres (Electrochalupa)". This is the first single from the Chaco World Music release PETRONICA - Petrona MartÃnez Electronic Suite Vol.1.
This album is an eclectic journey that takes the listener through a unique tapestry of sound: Electronic beats with native Colombian drums, modern synths with ancestral vocals, traditional grooves with modern production techniques, and the local ethnic culture of Bullerengue of distant Colombia with the global culture of Electronic and Alternative Music.
Petrona Martinez's original music is ancestral, organic and mainly percussive with infectious grooves and outstanding vocal performances. "Petrona's influence has played a major role in the emergence of the current independent music scene, on which, young urban musicians discover and experiment with traditional musics from contemporary settings. This marks the very first time that a selected group of DJs, artists and producers are invited to collaborate with Petrona and her original production team" quotes Manuel Garcia-Orozco, Petrona's music producer and the brains behind the PETRONICA project.
The eclectic Suite offers a tasteful palette of moods and styles including House, Electro, Drum n' Bass, Afro-Beat, Minimal, Tropical Bass, Lounge and Pop among others. More than 500 recording hours were necessary to produce PETRONICA in 20 cities including New York, Los Angeles, London, Bogotá, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Amsterdam and Athens. Besides Palenke Soultribe's contributions, PETRONICA includes collaborations with world-class artists like Aterciopelados, Sidestepper, Uproot Andy, Pernett, Xenia Ghali, King Coya, Chevy One, Martina Camargo and La Bermudez among others.
The album is available in all digital outlets (itunes, amazon, cd baby, spotify, deezer, etc). The video of Las Penas Alegres (Electrochalupa) by Palenke Soultribe & Petrona Martinez, shot at Petrona's home (in Montes de Maria, near Cartagena, Colombia) and produced by Cumbia Films, portrays one day in the life of Petrona and is complemented with footage of Palenke Soultribe producing the track at their studio in Los Angeles, CA.
After touring extensively in Europe and North America with dozens of shows and festivals (including Glastonbury in UK, Ostrava Fest, in CZ Republic, Womex in Budapest, Pan-American games in Toronto and Mundial Fest in Montreal) Palenke Soultribe is preparing their album SANGRE scheduled for Spring 2016.

Este ecléctico viaje musical explora la interacción de beats electrónicos con percusión autóctona colombiana, sintetizadores vanguardistas con voces ancestrales, grooves tradicionales con técnicas de producción modernas, es decir, la centenaria tradición del bullerengue con la vanguardia universal de la música electrónica y alternativa.
Ademas de la contribución de Palenke Soultribe el álbum cuenta con al participación de otros artistas de gran reconocimiento como Aterciopelados, Sidestepper, Uproot Andy, Pernett, Martina Camargo y La Bermudez. “Petrona es un emblema de la colombianidad y su influencia ha sido crucial en la escena actual, en la cual músicos jóvenes experimentan con músicas tradicionales y tendencias contemporáneas.” señala Manuel “Chaco” Garcia, productor musical forjador de Petrónica.
El álbum esta disponible en todos los portales digitales (itunes, amazon, spotify, deezer, etc) y el video del tema Las Penas Alegres (Electrochalupa) ya se encuentra en youtube. Este audiovisual, producido por Cumbia Films y dirigido por Felipe Holguín, fue rodado en los montes de María y explora el complemento visual de Petrona en su entorno natural con Palenke Soultribe en su estudio en Los Angeles.
