The New York International Fringe Festival is a 16 day extravaganza that's too big to summarize or even synthesize the highlights but here's some info that you might find helpful and some trailers I was able to find for your pre-fringe enjoyment:

New York - The New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC) is the largest multi-arts festival in North America, with more than 200 companies from all over the world performing for 16 days in more than 20 venues. FringeNYC will celebrate its 15th Anniversary August 12th - 28th, 2011.

FringeU is FringeNYC for your future! This year, FringeU will be focusing on helping FringeNYC Participants get to know the people who do year-round what FringeNYC does every summer: help the arts community grow!
Advocacy and arts service organizations will be giving informational workshops every Monday and Tuesday during the festival on who they are, what they do, and how you can use their resources to help your company flourish.
FringeU events will take place at FringeCENTRAL.
FringeJR
FringeJR is FringeNYC for families! These productions are specifically recommended for families and groups with children ages five (5) to twelve (12). $10 FringeJR tickets will be available to the youngsters for all FringeJR shows and may be purchased in person, in advance (24 hours before the performance) at FringeCENTRAL, or at the box office where the show is playing 15 minutes prior to curtain.
Fort FringeJR will be part of
Summerstreets11
and take place at Foley Square (Duane Street and Centre Street). Meet the cast, play a game, see an excerpt - all for FREE!

New ideas, new perspectives, pushing the limits, that's FringeNYC. FringeHIGH is a group of shows chosen from the regular FringeNYC roster that will resonate with young adults. Topics for this year's FringeHIGH shows include: identity (sexual and otherwise), facebook, anorexia, adoption, immigration and the drug wars. And you can take your pick of innovative theatre: cool mime, puppetry, 3D hip-hop - even Shakespeare that lets you choose your own ending! Check out the descriptions at the link above.

FringeNYC on Fourth - A FABNYC Project
FAB paves the way for Manhattan's only official cultural district to become a leading destination for arts and culture activity. We will be closing down East 4th St between Bowery and 2nd Ave for FringeNYC on Fourth and creating a FringeAL FRESCO theater haven for audiences and artists alike.
Restaurants will be extending table service into the street, you can picnic between shows or soak up the live, outdoor entertainment. FringeNYTeasers - a series of vignettes from a series of Fringe Festival plays - take place daily from 3pm - 5pm. What’s more 3D than FringeNYC? BUST THROUGH THE FLAT AND ORDINARY!
5,000 live artists bringing you 197 shows in 18 venues and serving up the freshest comedy, drama, musicals, performance art, puppetry, vaudeville, dance. . . you name it and they’re doing it LIVE ON STAGE! And FringeART celebrates that at FringeCENTRAL. During the festival everyone is invited to come have their photo taken and add it to the collage.
